Folk name: Orange blossom
Plant height: approx. 40 cm.
Deciduous: No
Hardy: Reasonably, as long as the location is sheltered.
Description: Choisya ternata 'Lich' is a yellow-leaved variety of the evergreen green-leaved Choisya ternata. Choisya ternata 'Lich' has beautiful yellow leaves. When sprouting, the leaves are golden yellow in colour, turning yellow-green later in the year. If you smell the leaves or bruise them, the lovely fragrance will not escape you. This choisya gets white star-shaped flowers in its flowering period.
Pruning: It is advisable not to prune the plant
Flowering time: The plant flowers in May and June
Pitch:
You can place the plant in both sun and semi-shade. In winter, Choisya needs a fairly dry location. In a sunny position, this plant keeps its yellow colour but in the semi-shade it turns slightly greener.
Care:
Choisya should be pruned in late spring immediately after flowering to allow a second flowering in late summer. Late summer flowering is less than spring flowering, though. Cut back spent shoots by 30 centimetres. In spring, cut away dead-frozen shoots near the ground.
History:
Choisya grows naturally as a shrub in the southern United States, but mainly in Mexico.
Significance:
The Choisya is named after J.D. Choisy, a Swiss botanist
