History:
To be precise, the Corylopsis comes from the Kirishi mountains. There, certain species grow up to seven metres high, while in the Netherlands they only grow to two metres.
Significance:
Corylopsis is derived from the Greek korylos, meaning hazel, and opsis stands for appearance. This is therefore where the Dutch name comes from.
