Description: Nothofagus is suitable as a shrub and avenue and park tree. The small leaves are ovate, bright green and have curly edges. They spread a sweet, spicy scent as they unfurl. The autumn colour is golden yellow.

History:
The mock beech is native to Patagonia, Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and Guinea. It grows there in jungle-like forests.
Significance:
Nothofagus is derived from the Greek nothos, meaning spurious, and Fagus, meaning beech. This is where the Dutch name came from.
