History:
Stachyurus chinensis is native to China and is more frost-resistant than the Japanese species Stachyurus praecox.
Significance:
Stachyurus is derived from the Greek stachys, meaning spike and oura, meaning tail. From this meaning came the Dutch name 'staartaar'.
